August 08, 2020: The Government Announces New Containment Measures
The Prime Minister, Abdelaziz Djerad, has decided to change the hours of the containment, the new partial containment will be from 11 p.m. in the evening until 6 a.m. the next day, and this at the national level, this decision comes into force from tomorrow, 9 August, until 31 August.
The prime Minister Djerad also announced the lifting of measures relating to the ban on the movement of private vehicles from and to the 29 wilayas concerned by the partial confinement measures.
The Prime Minister’s communiqué stressed that the walis have the power and authority to issue additional directives depending on the evolution of the pandemic in their wilayas. With the agreement of the competent authorities, the walis can readjust the times of partial or total containment, at the level of communes and neighbourhoods.

August 07, 2020 : Algeria – Earthquake results unveiled by civil Protection commission
In the morning of Friday, August 7, 2020, the wilaya of Mila was hit by two telluric tremors, 4.9 and 4.5 on the Richter open scale. Fortunately the damage in human losses proved to be non-existent; some material damages were drawn up in a report of the Civil Protection, indicates the site l’Actu Algérie.
That said, the Prime Minister, for his part, has reassured the residents of Mila. He is reported to have stated that all the damage caused by the two tremors will be compensated by the Government. The State will, therefore, come to the aid of any person whose home has been damaged.

August 07, 2020 : Earthquake in Mila – Beni Haroun dam not affected
The Beni Haroun dam, the largest water dam in Algeria, located in the extreme north of the wilaya of Mila, was in no way affected by the two earth tremors recorded Friday morning in the region, said the acting director of the Mila water resources department, Messaoud Lechhab.

August 06,2020: New instructions from the Ministry of Health
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Health has issued an instruction to all the Health Directorates calling on them to apply a road map comprising a series of measures, within the COVID-19 services.
The Ministry has noted an increase in hospitalizations causing an increase in the occupancy rate of hospitalization and resuscitation beds. This resulted in hospital bed saturation in several hospitals that had not mobilized their moveable beds on time.

August 06, 2020: Sofiane Benyounes – I’m momentarily retiring from hirak
Sofiane Benyounes, a political activist and founding member of the Facebook group Algérie debout, explains the reasons that led him to momentarily withdraw from Hirak.
“I’m leaving Hirak momentarily but I’m definitely in the Revolution. Why are you doing this? To take sometimes out is sometimes healthy. For oneself, for others.”

August 05, 2020: Vigilance despite a decline in COVID-19 cases
After more than a month of recovery, the number of COVID-19 contaminations has again been falling for the past week. However, the Algerian authorities remain vigilant.
Reopening limited, at first, “only to large mosques. Precisely those that can accommodate at least 1,000 places and which are able to allow the necessary physical distance. With as an imperative the wearing of masks by all,” according to Algeria Presse Service (APS).
In this summer period, beaches, in particular, are very important as it is a place where the risk of contamination is therefore very high.
Here again, the trend is towards a gradual reopening. In the words of the Minister of the Environment: “Take the necessary measures for gradual access to such areas. Measures that also take into account the need to respect sanitary conditions,” reports the APS.

August 04, 2020: UN calls for avoiding a “generational disaster”
Parents and especially women have had to bear the heavy burden of caring for children at home. Learners with disabilities, members of minorities or disadvantaged groups, displaced or refugees, or those still living in remote areas are at greatest risk of being left behind.
“At a time when the world is facing unsustainable levels of inequality, we need education, that great equalizer, more than ever,” he added.
“We need to take bold steps now to create inclusive, resilient, quality education systems that are fit for the future,” the UN chief concluded.

August 04, 2020: Does WHO want to torpedo the Russian vaccine?
The World Health Organization has expressed scepticism about the vaccine announced by the Russians. Its spokesman said that “any vaccine and any drug for this purpose must of course undergo all the different trials and tests before being licensed for deployment”. He stressed that “there are clear guidelines and directives, regulations to move things forward in a safe and effective way”.
Russia announces vaccine availability as early as September
WHO joins several researchers who have expressed concern about the speed of development of Russian vaccines. They believe that certain steps could be skipped in order to speed up the work, under pressure from the authorities.

August 03, 2020: Russia announces results of clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine
The examination carried out on 3 August by the volunteers who tested the coronavirus vaccine at the military hospital in Burdenko revealed that all the patients had “a clear immune response”, according to the same media outlet.
As a reminder, clinical tests on volunteers have been carried out since 17 June at Setchenov University in Moscow and at the Burdenko military hospital. The First Deputy Minister of Defence, Ruslan Tsalikov, announced on 21 July that Russia’s first coronavirus vaccine was ready.

August 03, 2020: COVID-19 vaccine procurement – Algeria takes the lead
For the time being, the race to discover an effective vaccine against Covid-19 is underway and six candidate vaccines are in late stage 3 to explore their efficacy. The first results from the three laboratories that have advanced into the development phases – AstraZeneca of Oxford University, Moderna and a Chinese vaccine – are expected in early autumn, according to these laboratories. A pre-commitment is in place for Algeria to be among the priority countries to receive vaccine doses.
If successful, Pfizer plans to seek regulatory approval in October and deliver up to 100 million doses by the end of 2020. The Russian Ministry of Health announced Saturday, according to Sputniknews, that clinical trials of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Russia’s Gamalayaet center have been completed and will be launched in October.

August 02, 2020: COVID-19 evolution assessment (Contaminations, deaths, recoveries)
Indeed, the number of contaminations and deaths due to the Coronavirus is decreasing on August 2nd in Algeria. The committee in charge of the follow-up of Covid-19 has counted an increase of new cases these last 24 hours of no less than 515 cases (against 556 the day before) and eight (08) people have died (against 13 the day before), announces the spokesman of the Scientific Committee, Dr. Djamel Fourar.

August 02, 2020: Relaxing of lockdown for Algerians repatriated from abroad
The Ministry of Health has decided to relax the containment procedures for Algerians repatriated from abroad, in particular persons over 80 years of age and those suffering from chronic diseases. These categories of persons, after a long stay abroad imposed by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), will be able to remain isolated at home instead of the hotel establishments requisitioned by the State.
According to the same source, persons benefiting from this procedure will, however, have to “undertake on their honour to respect home confinement for a period of 14 days”.
